to Idol, my shrine/fansite for Gumi, otherwise known as Megpoid, from VOCALOID! She was the very first VOCALOID I discovered as a teenager, and so I've always been particularly fond of her. I wanted to show my love for her with my own little shrine!
Gumi was released for the VOCALOID2 engine in June 2009 by the music software company Internet Co. Her voice is sampled from the singer and voice actor Megumi Nakajima. Sometime around 2011, she rose in popularity, with many notable songs being created for her in the next few years. She was on the level of VOCALOIDs like Hatsune Miku for many years. Her software would gain regular updates for the next versions of VOCALOID, typically being one of the first to have an update released.
In December of 2023, she recieved an update on Synthesizer V, marking the first time any singing software for Gumi was released on a different engine than VOCALOID. In 2025, her Synth V was updated to Synthesizer V 2.
A common point of confusion is how Gumi has two names: Gumi and Megpoid. Megpoid is the name of the actual VOCALOID software, being a combination of "Megumi" (her voice provider) and "VOCALOID", meaning "Megumi-like Vocaloid".
While Megpoid is the name of the software, Gumi is the name of the mascot character. She along with a few of Internet Co's other VOCALOIDs also have this naming scheme of a different name between the software and mascot.
These are some of my favorite Gumi songs. *wip section
In 2013, Megpoid the Music♯, a rhythm game, was released on the PSP. It was similar to the adjacent Project DIVA series, where along with the rhythm game portion, you could also spend time with Gumi in a room, giving her outfits and decorations that was earned by playing the game.
In Project Mirai, a spinoff of Project DIVA for the Nintendo 3DS, Gumi makes an appearance, either in the rhythm game portion, or when she drops off seasonal items, and clothes and furniture after earning them.
Gumi was also featured in many of Konami's BEMANI games, to celebrate her 5th anniversary in 2013. Many Gumi songs were added to Dance Dance Revolution, Jubeat, Gitadora, reflec beat, Pop'n Music, Sound Voltex, and Beatmania IIDX. In Pop'n Music, she was added as a playable character.
