VOCALOID History

GUMI's original VOCALOID2 voicebank was released on June 26th, 2009. She was noted to be one of the best vocals during that era, despite having some issues.

During VOCALOID2, she had some append voicebanks (different voice tones) in development, which were released as VOCALOID3 voicebanks on October 21th, 2011, as some of the launch voicebanks with that version. The appends included were Adult, Power, Sweet, and Whisper. On March 16th, 2012, her Japanese Native voicebank was released. Native was an update to her original V2 voicebank, fixing some of the issues that had been noticed with it.

On February 28th, 2013, her V3 English voicebank was released. This allowed GUMI to sing in English, and, when compared to many of the other English voicebanks from V2, and the current V3 English banks at the time of release, was regarded to be one of the best non-native English voicebanks. However, this vocal had some major issues with transitions between notes, and is not a very beginner friendly vocal to use for English. It just requires a lot of work, but when that work is put into it, it has great results.

Almost one year after VOCALOID4 released, updates of her V3 appends and Native voicebanks were released, on November 5th, 2015. Along with updating the software to utilize GROWL, one of VOCALOID4's 2 notable features, she had additional, newely recorded voicebanks included with each V4 bank (E.G. V4 Native included both the update of V3 Native, but also a new voicebank named NativeFat). These new voice libraries were intended to be used with XSY (Cross Synthesis) the other new feature to V4's name.

The next version of GUMI was released alongside VOCALOID6, the current version of the software, on October 13th, 2022. As VOCALOID6 was primarily built off of the VOCALOID:AI technology that Yamaha had been developing for years, her V6 library was called AI Megpoid. The advantage of V:AI was that instead of needing multiple voicebanks for different languages (this is why her Japanese and English voicebanks are separate software and can only work with the specific language programmed), cross language was implemented, meaning that with just one voicebank, you could have it sing in all 3 languages compatible with V:AI (Japanese, English, and Chinese). On July 4th, 2024, a new version of her V6 vocal was released, dubbed AI Megpoid SOLID (similar to her Power append).

Her V6 vocal was ported over to Synthesizer V Studio (a similar voice synth created by Dreamtonics) on December 20th, 2023. This vocal was different in that she had vocal modes, which were not a feature within VOCALOID. This vocal also had more compatibility with different languages through cross language (Spanish was not offered with VOCALOID6). On September 12th, 2025, a new version of her Synth V vocal was released on Synthesizer V 2. This vocal had fixed some issues with her original vocal, and included more vocal modes that fans had asked for.

Game History

On March 28th, 2013, her own rhythm game, Megpoid the Music♯, was released for the Playstation Portable. This game, along with the music game portion, also featured a room mode similar to Project DIVA, where you can interact with GUMI.

GUMI also made a cameo in the Project Mirai series, as a guest. She makes appearances in the videos for the songs where she was used, alongside the Crypton characters in the game. She made appearances in all 3 games.
